Today was one of our rare sleep in days. Once I did finally get woken up my dad and I got ready for a short run and headed out while mom and Hannah took good care of us and got a yummy breakfast of nectarines, banana, and nuts. After desweatifying, a very important step, the whole family headed out for some yummy empanadas, which was Hannah's lunch almost every day while she was here. Just as we were getting excited we discovered it was closed on Sundays. We decided to walk down La Concha beach for a bit to see if there were any good food options there. However, we met not only some hefty tourist prices, but also no vegetarian options. We moved on and started browsing yelp and foursquare for some vegetarian places. After walking close to all of the way back to our apartment we got to a super cute restaurant. They had some food that's pretty similar to what we eat at home like hummus, guac, and falafel. Well fed and perked up, we all walked to Hannah's school where she had classes in Spanish for the past three weeks. The building was really cool because it was covered it different murals. After, we walked to a nearby building that had a really good view of the city. It was an art museum without art, which I found to be a bit strange. The view was art though so I guess there was at least one piece.
Our next stop was the dock where a boat to a small island in the bay of San Sebastian. The boat took about 7 minutes and when we got to the island we realized just how high the tide was. The beach was totally covered as was its walled sandpit. We decided to skip the beach, mostly because of the cold weather, but also because there was no beach at the time. We explored a little path that went straight uphill and found a spot with a really good view of lots of birds and rocks the waves crashed on. We continued to find a grassy area with tons a picnic tables so we stopped and played two games of Skip-Bo. I won the first game, but badly lost the second to Hannah. I can't really be surprised because while Hannah was taking a picture of us I turned my cards toward the camera. Hannah asked my why I did it and I said "It would be funny to be able to look back at the pictures in the future and be able to say 'Joelle had a 2, 6, and an 8'... Oh... Shoot!" This pretty much began my streak of just saying what my cards were and not really caring. Once Hannah won we scurried down to the boat and just barely caught it going back to San Sebastian.
Once we were back we decided to head out for crepes at a place where Hannah frequented. I was really excited to get some crepe action and on the walk there we stumbled upon a raging plaza. We curiously walked in and found a few people waving flags from a tall building with the San Sebastian league soccer team. There was a huge crowd and live music. We took some pictures and then got antsy for crepes. My crepe was super yummy with real maple syrup, banana, and strawberries. While we were eating crepes we saw the people from the square parade by with lots of cheering. The crepes were really good, but we were still hungry so we went to the Indian food place where I went with Hannah's friends. We ordered mostly rice and I got to practice some Spanish when explaining to the waiter why I didn't eat the prawns. I responded with out thinking and accidentally said "No hablo carne" or "I don't speak meat" instead of "No como carne" or "I don't eat meat." I knew what to say but I didn't say it. Oh well. After some yummy food we were exhausted and opted to take the bus back. Thank you Hannah, for showing us your part of the city.
